Celebrating Diversity This week we have been celebrating peoples differences. Our poem is called 'people are different'. We talked as a community about the importance of respect and diversity in our world. Encouraging Community Two to focus on differences has helped them understand and respect the strengths and weaknesses in others and themselves. As well as this we have been celebrating New Zealand and talking about why we are proud of where we live. We have been learning a song that we would like to share with you. It has been very special to us as we have also learnt the sign language to go with the song. The children now know lots of signs for many different words. We will be learning many other signs in the future so watch this space! Please comment on our blog as we really enjoy sharing your responses with the children. Community 2

This week in Community 2....

We have had an exciting week both inside and outside the classroom! In class we have been learning about our local area of Puhinui (Warkworth) by discussing what makes up our area. We used hexagons to piece together parts that related to each other, such as the Mahurangi river - fish - ducks & eels. We have also been moving our bodies by using body percussion to make a rhythm. Here is some art using dye and salt to make an effect of the ocean. First we dyed our background and then sprinkled salt on before it dried. Outside the classroom we were lucky enough to learn snorkelling at the local pool at the Oaks. This was definitely the highlight of the week for the students! It was also great to see confidence build in many of the students. We also ventured to Mahurangi river where we discussed the history and did some drawings about our place. What an awesome week all of us in Community 2 have had!

Healing Through Art theatre group

We were lucky to have a theatre group come to our school to not only work with the children but also perform to us! The performance was displaying kindness and showing how being kind can positively affect those around you. There were lots of laughs and we really enjoyed the show! Here are a few snippets from our morning:
